The owners first acquired a modest traditional shake and shingle cottage located at the edge of East Hampton in Wainscott, New York. Over time, adjacent land parcels were also acquired in order to accommodate a larger home.

Architecturally inspired by Sir Edwin Lutyens English country houses, the house is clad in varied materials to be insignificant yet in harmony with the original cottage. Great care is taken in materials selection and craftsmanship to give the appearance that the family home has been standing since 1910 while the surrounding property grew and was built around it.
