An empty shell space within a retail shopping center was transformed into a contemporary, state-of-the-art and forward thinking dental practice. The small footprint of the building called for a vibrant color palette. Capitalizing on the opportunity of an already existing building height, Rowland designed a sloping 22 foot ceiling, creating a welcoming entry that attracts not only customers but passersby. Three dimensional massing of the wall and ceiling planes was designed to convey a sense of privacy for the patient, yet allows for a synergistic workflow for the doctor and his staff. The scale of the opening into the operatories, absent of doors, accomplishes both of these desires.
