When the Sigma Chi fraternity house on the Indiana University campus needed to enhance their common areas, sleeping spaces, bathrooms, and study rooms, the house corporation board hired Rowland Design to complete the project. Using the fraternity’s colors of blue and old gold as inspiration, Rowland Design gave the house a more modern feel while respecting the tradition and heritage of Sigma Chi. One of the project’s challenges was to provide the fraternity with furniture and finishes that withstood the wear and tear of fraternity life. Rowland’s design solution was to use commercial grade finishes throughout the house. The decor of the Sigma Chi house’s decor is now comfortable and classic, and the improved spaces have helped the fraternity in the recruitment of new members.
