East Grand Rapids, Michigan What used to be the site of a bankrupted department store, will soon be a bustling, mixed-use area with locally owned restaurants, retail shops, banks and medical offices. At the turn of the last century, this area of East Grand Rapids was home to a vibrant amusement park and numerous commercial establishments. It is the developer's goal to bring this pride and excitement back to the Gaslight district. Having explored many scenarios in maximizing the economic viability of a challenging, triangular site and achieving the support of the community through a public referendum, the final solution was to construct a new "main street".
